JJ & W Beals flat-front OG,  1845-1848.  A short-lived company in Boston retailing and making some clocks.  William Beals left and continued on his own until 1852 as a clock and watchmaker and retailer.  This flat or bevel-front case is 26 inches tall with good mahogany veneer all around and a clean finish.  Both glasses are likely original and the tablet is in good shape, although most of the milk-glass backing in the center of the image is worn off.  The wooden dial is yellowed and faded; it is signed above the mainstem.  The hands are period and appropriate.  The 30-hour wooden time-and-strike movement runs briefly and will strike.  There are two period weights, a pendulum bob, and a torn but readable label inside.  $100–$200.
