Eli Terry & Sons carved quarter-column and splat shelf clock, 1823-1831.  A bit unusual for these makers, with inset quarter-columns; I can find only a couple of examples of this style among the 250+ clocks by Terry & Sons on LiveAuctioneers.  The carvings are very nice here, with rings on the quarter-columns and a deeply carved eagle splat, one of the best I have seen.  The 32-inch case has good clean mahogany veneer with figured mahogany on the sides; it stands on paw feet in front and turned feet in back, all of which look original.  Both glasses are likely replacements, with old but not period glass over the dial and modern glass with a Moberg tablet underneath.  New putty all around.  The wooden dial is clean and colorful with floral wreaths around the mainstem; the hands are period and proper.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking with two period weights; the strike has some difficulty shutting off but shouldn’t be difficult to adjust.  There is a working door lock and key, an embossed period pendulum bob, and a very dark but legible label inside.  Looks great; what’s not to like?  $125–$250.
