Samuel Terry for George Mitchell, pillar & scroll, 1828-1835.  Samuel Terry was Eli’s younger brother (by two years) and worked with his older brother Eli, forming a partnership with Eli until 1828 when he left Plymouth for Bristol (just down the road) to work under his own name.  As evident on this label, he also made clocks for George Mitchell, a merchant in Bristol.  The 31-inch case is in excellent condition with professional repairs to the two scroll tips; the feet and skirt look original to me.  Both glasses are old, the dial glass may be a replacement, the lower glass original with a repainted tablet.  The brass urn finials are on wooden posts and period/original pulley dust covers are present.  The gilded wooden dial is clean and the hands period and characteristic of Samuel Terry.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement will run for a while and will strike on the iron bell.  A good label inside, along with two old weights, a crank, an old pendulum bob and a door key for the working latch.  AAC sold a similar example in 2022 for $1100.  $300-$600.
