Mark Leavenworth
& Son pillar & scroll, 1825-1829. A third example, this one also with considerable restoration and more to go. The 30.5-inch case has good veneer and a clean finish; the scroll top, side returns, corner posts, skirt, and feet are all modern
replacements. The brass urn finials are tarnished and on steel posts. Both glasses are old glass replacements held in
place with wooden strips; the tablet center image may possibly be touched up (extensively) but the surround is new. The wooden
dial is badly faded with spotting, but the spandrels and mainstem surround are nice. There are no hands. The wooden 30-hour
time-and-strike movement could not be tested because there is no suspension spring. There are two old weights, no bob, no winder,
and a stained, darkened, and torn label on the backwall. $100–$200.
