151.           $200

Ansonia Clock Co. “Cabinet Antique”, ca. 1894.  A rare clock, but unfortunately, this one has a few issues.  This model had unique and distinctive finials, and these aren’t them (see Ly,Ansonia Clocks & Watches, page 241).  The mahogany case is beautiful with a deep red finish and numerous brass ornaments on all sides.  Oddly, the brackets on the bottom shelf are upside down relative to the catalog illustration, but they look like they have always been that way.  The dial glass is flat and beveled, the dial metal with a rich look and a visible escapement; the hands are brass and proper.  The round 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement with a rack and snail strike is loose in the mount and I can’t get it to run for more than a minute or so; it will not strike.  Service is called for – at a minimum, removal from the case and cleaning.  It strikes on a cathedral gong.  I see no label.  Were this clock correct and running it would be expected to sell for $750 or so.  $200–$500.
