137.           $50

“The Caledonian Registered” shelf clock, 1875-1895.  The name is stamped on the lyre-shaped movement and is listed in Clockmakers & Watchmakers of America by the Spittlers and Bailey, but the maker is surmised to be British or German.  It would appear to be an American case, 18 inches tall with rosewood or mahogany veneer and a clean, polished finish.  The door glass is old in a dark wood frame with gilded trim; the painted metal dial is flaking and unsigned.  The hands are atypical, consistent with a European origin for the movement.  The brass 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a small nickel bell.  No label.  $50–$150.
