68. $250
Chauncey Goodrich miniature column & cornice,ca. 1853. This 20.5-inch tall “triple decker” is most often associated with E.O. Goodwin, and indeed, it is likely that Goodwin
made and sold or traded the case to Goodrich, as they were contemporaries in Forestville (Bristol) in the 1850’s, when each was working
on their own. The mahogany case has been cleaned but not varnished or waxed. The three glasses are period/original, with
the middle glass depicting Mt. Carmel in Hamden, CT, just north of New Haven. I believe the decalcomania transfer depicts theMount Carmel Congregational Church built in 1840, with passers-by on Whitney Avenue. The lower glass is a frosted tablet with
a mirror behind it; I don’t know if it was made that way or a later modification. The contoured dial has been touched up, possibly
repainted, and bears Goodrich’s signature. The hands are period and appropriate. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is
unsigned. It is running, striking on a wire gong; there is a good faded green label inside. No similar recent sales. $250–$400.
