25. $175
Seth Thomas carved
column & splat shelf clock, ca. 1835. A 29-inch case with good mahogany veneer, a clean finish, and carved half-columns
and splat. I suspect the splat is a modern replacement; there are carved paw feet in front and turned feet in back. Both
glasses are old with old putty and may be original; the tablet has considerable losses. The wooden dial is clean with good color
and gilding, the hands are period and appropriate. The wooden 30-hour time-and-strike movement is running and striking, with
two period weights and an old pendulum bob. The paper label has darkened considerably and has significant losses, but the maker’s
name and location are clear. I have not sold a Seth Thomas short-drop shelf clock with carved columns and splat previously. $175-$300.
