EN Welch Mfg. Co. “Regulator No. 11”,ca. 1889. A 60-inch walnut case with the original finish and multiple subsequent layers, leading to some crustiness overall.
All the trim is original except for a small finial on the bottom left of the base, an old replacement. The door glass is old
and wavy. The 10-inch dial was repainted by The Dial House, the hands, including the seconds hand, are period and probably original. The brass 30-day, double-spring movement is unsigned and matches the movements found in other examples; it is clean as a whistle and
running like a champ (there has been a glue repair to the suspension spring, which appears to be secure). The pendulum stick
and bob are likely original, and there is a Welch beat scale at the bottom. There is no label, front or back. An original
example of an uncommon model, and a great timekeeper. My consignor tells me it runs for 45 days. AAC sold an example in
oak a year ago for $900. $750–$1000.
