Brewster & Ingrahams round gothic
with cast iron cups, 1846-1852. The springs in this movement are held in cast iron cups, but it lacks the cast iron backplate
used on earlier models. This uncommon model likely came late in evolution of these clocks to reduce cost and weight; a similar
example is shown in Ly, Ingraham Clocks & Watches, on pages 46-47 and is noted as “a rare movement variation”. The
19-inch mahogany case has an old finish with a bit of wear. The dial glass may be original, the frosted lower glass a modern
replacement. The hinges do not fit well and the door does not want to close. The dial is wood, rounded on the face
and with noticeable chipping; it has been reinforced on the backside with popsicle sticks. The hands are likely original. The
signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a wire gong; there is a good but dark label inside. AAC sold a
similar example a year ago for $450. $150–$300.
