189. $50
Chauncey Jerome “David Crockett” cottage, ca. 1850. A 12-inch walnut case with a thick coat of varnish and patina. The decalcomania glass is original with good retention of the
polychrome image, except for a loss in the upper left corner. The metal dial has been repainted, the hands are very likely original. The 30-hour, time-only movement is signed Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, and has a brass spring. The movement is mounted upside
down; in other examples, the pendulum is suspended from the top of the case with an inverted crutch (here). It is running strongly. There is no label (typical), and the bottom of the case is missing. AAC sold one last summer for $61. $50–$150.
