Wm. L Gilbert Clock Co. “Amphion”, ca. 1885.  An excellent example of one of the premier Late Victorian clocks in all its glory.  The walnut case is 25 inches tall with ebonized trim edges and balls on top, all original, and a perfect patina, just the way you want an antique clock to look.  The glass is correct and probably original, as are the three mirrors.  The paper dial is yellowed and could be replaced; the hands are period and proper. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, and striking on the cathedral gong, regulated by the mirrored glass pendulum. There is a label on the back.  Not a thing to complain about here.  AAC sold an Amphion last summer for $600.  $500–$600.
