Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
142. $500
Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 4”, ca. 1885. The No. 4 differs from the No. 3 in appearance in having an inset
seconds dial and a different pendulum hanger with a plain brass bob – and having a secret compartment in the back to store the pendulum
bob and key. The 32-inch walnut case has a clean finish; the door glass is period/original, with the proper Fashion lettering. The center finial is an accurate replacement, the corner finials are original. The dials have been repainted, with the time
dial having been replaced with an aluminum pan, probably because of severe warping of the original zinc dial. The hands are
correct. The Seth Thomas 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and has the proper pendulum; the Andrews calendar mechanism
is functioning properly. There are two labels inside. The No. 4 is probably the most common model of the Fashion clocks. AAC sold one last winter for $725. $500–$800.
