Brewster & Ingrahams round gothic with cast
iron backplate, 1843-1846. A 19-inch “beehive” case again with Kirk’s patent cast iron backplate with the brass springs housed
in cast iron cups. The flame-mahogany case has a clean finish with a chip out of the top back right and a hole of undetermined
origin on the lower left side. The dial glass is modern, the cut-glass tablet likely original. Note that the dial bezel
is broken and warped at the bottom; the door latch is missing. The iron dial was repainted by The Dial House, the hands are
original with a repair to the hour hand. The brass movement with a rack and snail repeating strike is running and striking on
a wire gong mounted on a brass lyre base that often was used with these second-generation movements. The brass pendulum hanger
is not typical. It appears that there was a green label over the wallpaper background. For additional information see
Ly, Ingraham Clocks & Watches, pages 43-47. AAC sold a similar example in 2022 for $750. $450–$600.
