Antique American Clocks July 2021
28. $1500
Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Fashion No. 6”, ca. 1887. The No. 6 was made by ST after they
bought out the Southern Calendar Clock Co. and the SCCC name is nowhere to be found on this example. The walnut case shows evidence
of repeated polishing/varnishing and dark finish can be seen in the corners and crevices. The door glass is likely original,
the lettering correct for this model. Both black paper dials are old and have been varnished with something that has given them
a rough finish; there is some light speckling noticeable under bright light. The seconds dial is inset with a nickel ring; the
three nickel hands are correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike 85D movement is signed and running, striking on a resonant cathedral
gong. The movement screws into a cast iron base and uses a long drop pendulum with a damascened nickel bob. There is a
black label on the back of the door. The calendar is advancing. Horton’s sold a No. 6 in similar condition in 2019 for
$1675 and AAC sold one in 2020 for $1728. $1500-$1800.
Can I return my clock if I don’t like it?
Absolutely! Save your packing and box, you have 30 days from receipt to return
it if you are unhappy. If the clock is not as described, or I missed something important and that is not evident from the pictures,
I will refund your shipping costs (both ways) as well. Find another auction company that does that!
