Antique American Clocks January 2022
113. $250
Seth Thomas “Carson”, 1884. An unusual Seth Thomas City Series clock with a “sheet brass
case, nickeled body. Gold gilt ornaments at head and base. Bronze alligator panel.” Just over 14 inches in height
with a beveled glass in the bezel and a porcelain dial with fancy hands. The dial is signed. The Seth Thomas movement
is also unusual in that it strikes the half-hours on a cup bell and counts the hours on a cathedral gong. Both have a pleasant
sound. The clock is running and striking; no label. The Carson is another uncommon model; the most recent sale I can find
was for $300 by Horton’s in 2017. $250-$400.
