Antique American Clocks January 2022
97. $750
Waterbury Clock Co. “Regulator No. 1”, ca. 1875. This is a surprisingly rare clock – there
are no sales records in the Antique Clocks Price Guide or on LiveAuctioneers. Horton’s sold this clock to the consignor in 2015
for $1280; Ly shows this clock in his book on Waterbury clocks on page 173. The 34-inch case is veneered in rosewood and I would
guess the bezel has been redone. Both glasses are replacements. The 12-inch dial is likely original and has been touched
up; the hands are close replacements (as is the tablet). The A-frame movement is signed and is shown in Ly’s Waterbury Clocks
& Watches Vol. 2 on page 714. It is a two-weight, time-only, 8-day movement also used in the Regulator No. 4 (Rosedale);
it runs for a while and then stops. The weight baffles are new, the weights and pendulum likely original. No label. $750-$1500.
