Antique American Clocks July 2021
4. $500
French shelf clock, ca. 1870. A 24-inch beautifully carved walnut case in
a French style with the original finish. The wooden dial is hand-painted, shows some wear and has been touched up. This
clock has been exposed to moisture and many iron parts show considerable rust; the hands originally had a gold finish and have been
repainted. The two winding holes in the dial have metal slide covers. The pendule de Paris 8-day, time-and-strike movement
is signed “Vincenti & Cie”; I could not test it because the suspension spring is broken. Suspension springs are available
from TimeSavers for a modest cost. The pendulum and a French key are with the clock. A beautiful case and an attractive
dial; note that two small carvings are missing from the front lower left, and the rear finials appear to be missing their top halves. $500-$1200.
