Antique American Clocks July 2020
101. $1500
Atkins “Parlor No. 1”, ca. 1855. This Parlor No. 1 was likely made by Atkins, Whiting &
Co. in the early 1850’s but, as is typical, there is no label. The unusual case is veneered in rosewood and stands 18 inches
tall. The dial glass is original and in good condition, the lower door glass is a modern replacement and would originally have
been a mirror. Both door handles are ivory, the dial has been repainted by The Dial House, the hands original with some repairs. The 30-day, round time-only movement is unique to Irenus Atkins and is driven by a Joseph Ives Type III wagon spring mechanism with
the original chains. It is running without problem. Horton’s sold two in 2019 for $1750 and $2140. $1600-$2000.
Can I return my clock if I don’t like it?
Absolutely! Save your packing and box, you have 30 days from receipt to return
it if you are unhappy. If the clock is not as described, or we missed something important and that is not evident from the pictures,
we will refund your shipping costs (both ways) as well. Find another auction company that does that!
