Antique American Clocks January 2020
805. $350
Hamilton Watch Co. “Thor”, 1959-1961. Hamilton introduced asymmetric cases along with their introduction
of the first electric (battery-operated) watches. This watch, which contains a high-grade 22-jewel Grade 770 mechanical movement,
is one of a limited number of mechanicals housed in asymmetric cases. The Thor remains popular, although it was not popular
when introduced, and was made for only two years; people who wanted an unusual looking watch would opt for one of Hamilton’s new-fangled
electric watches. Thor came in 10 kt yellow and white gold-filled cases. The case, dial, and glass on this watch
are in near mint condition (the dial has been refinished); the leather band is marked “Made in France”. The watch is running
and keeping time. $350-$500.
