Antique American Clocks January 2020
34. $500
Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 9”, ca. 1980. Not so much a reproduction as an approximate
copy of the original clock. Without going into detail, there are a number of elements that are either missing or poorly copied
on this clock; in deference to the woodworker who made this, the No. 9 had an abundance of challenging elements to copy (see page
262 of Ly’s Calendar Clocks). The 36-inch case is walnut, and the movements are authentic ST movements (the calendar movement
by R.T. Andrews). It is, of course, 8-day time and strike on a brass bell, and is running, striking, and the calendar is advancing. The dials are newly made from galvanized steel, the hands are old hands from a triple-decker, the dial glasses modern glass. I don’t understand why the makers of these “tribute” clocks don’t sign them; I’d take credit for my work if I went to the trouble
to make one. $500-$1000.
