Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 5 REPRODUCTION”, ca. 1980. A beautiful reproduction of one of Seth Thomas’ most difficult to find regulators. The 47-inch mahogany case has a rich, polished
finish; the top finials are as shown in the catalog illustration, the bottom two finials are improper replacements and the right finial
has been broken and roughly repaired. The bottom center finial also does not match the catalog and the overall base appears
shorter than it should be. There is no maker name or imprint, so I don’t know who or where this was made. The dial is
enameled metal with a wooden ring and on a veneered thin backboard. The hands are brass painted black and, while they match
ST hands, they are not the style of hands used on this model. The 8-day, time-only weight-driven movement is unsigned; it is
running without issue. The pendulum stick, bob, and brass weight are proper, and there is a brass beat scale at the bottom on
posts. This is a beautiful clock, and I can find only one other sale of a reproduction, in 2019 for $350. Originals sell
for $6000 and up, if you can find one. $300–$500.
