G.W. Bartholomew hollow column, 1833-1837.  The label shows only George as the maker, but this clock was likely made by G.W. Bartholomew & Co after George and his older cousin Eli split up.  It’s unclear who the “& Co.” was, but Alvin Alpress, a later partner, is a likely contributor.  The mahogany case has been refinished and is clean and polished, with some light wear to the columns; it stands on paw feet in front and turned feet in back.  The dial glass is modern, the middle mirror is likely twentieth century, and the lower glass is original with the original gilded boarder and a repainted center image, very nice.  The small wooden dial board is clean with the original paint and strong numbering; the hands are period but not original and are rusty.  The wooden 30-hour time-and-strike movement could not be tested as there are no weights and the suspension spring is missing.  This clock requires narrow diameter round  weights that will fit in the columns; regular 30-hour weights will not work.  In addition, the double pulleys needed at the top of the strike side are present, along with metal axles, but the mounting blocks are missing. They are included.  There is also a brass pendulum bob and a very good label on the backwall.  A good-looking clock that will take some effort to get into running condition.  $200–$500.
