Johan Wörle 30-day Dachluhr calendar
Vienna, ca. 1830. A 37.5-inch dachluhr case in rosewood veneer with satin string inlays and nine old glasses that may be of
later manufacture; Wörle was on record as a clockmaker from 1817 to around 1875 (Ortenburger, Vienna Regulators and Factory Clocks,
page 56, 1990). The porcelain dial has numerous fine hairlines that are only noticeable up close, in an engine-turned brass
bezel. The hands are period/original and the dial is signed with the location of the maker, Wien. Note the calendar date
hand. The time-only movement is running delicately, driven by two 3.5-lb brass weights on a saddle pulley; the pendulum bob
is hollow. I believe it runs 30 days. The calendar hand is advancing; the movement bears no maker’s markings. Has
a period/original crank. R.O. Schmitt sold this clock in 2009 for $5750. $2500–$4000.
