Brewster & Ingrahams 15-inch
gallery clock, ca. 1850. A 15.5-inch walnut case with a flat glass and a 10-inch convex wooden dial. The finish is clean,
the glass is modern. Before we go further, this clock is a mess. The backboard and movement are not secured to the gallery
case. The wooden dial is soiled and faded and will not clean up easily, and a portion of the painted surface is missing at the
bottom; the dial is not secured to the mounting boards, and there is no obvious way it could be mounted, suggesting it may not be
original, or there are pieces of the framing missing. There is screw hole on the right that goes to no support board. The hands are period/original, a positive here. The ribbed brass, 8-day, time-only movement is clean but the verge is dislodged
from its mount and does not seem to be correct; the anchor wire, which goes back up behind the movement, does not fit properly, and
the clock cannot be set up to run. It will take some expertise and patience to get this guy running; note the brass spring. The movement is die-stamped with the makers. There is a good label inside. This uncommon clock is a project. $50–$100.
