212.            $200

Waterbury Clock Co. “Ontario”, ca. 1881.  The third in this series of Waterbury clocks named after Canadian cities; it is the least ornate of the three.  The 40-inch walnut case has been stripped and refinished, and I think the crest is a replacement, as the detail on the carvings is not quite up to 1880 standards. When a case is refinished like this it is very hard to tell what parts have been replaced, but the features all look like the catalog drawing (Ly, Waterbury Clocks, page 196).  The door glass is certainly period but may not be original.  The painted dial is Waterbury, with the logo and soiling and minor chipping.  The hands are likely original, and the minute hand has been repaired rather clumsily.  The 8-day, time-and-strike signed movement is oily but is running and striking, with a repair to the strike-count lever.  The pendulum and bob are Waterbury.  There is no label.  $200–$400.
