210. $500
Waterbury Clock Co. “Toronto”, ca. 1881. My favorite
Waterbury clock (I have owned one that was my dad’s for most of my life) and this one is in the best condition I have ever seen (even
better than mine). There is a great patina on the 42-inch walnut case over the original finish. All the carved trim
pieces are present and undamaged. The door glass appears to be modern with the silver stencil matching that shown in the catalog
illustration (Ly, Waterbury Clocks & Watches, page 202). The painted dial shows some yellowing and wear and is likely original;
the hands are period and proper. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running, spring-driven and with a Waterbury pendulum
stick and nickel bob. There is a Waterbury beat scale at the bottom and two good labels behind plastic on the back. I’ll
brook no nonsense on this clock, it is the best example of this model I have seen, and they are rare. One sale on LiveAuctioneers,
in 2024 for $600. $500–$1000.
