Howard & Davis “No. 3 Regulator” banjo,ca. 1858. A 38-inch case with the rosewood grain painting still highly visible. The dial glass may be newer but is held
in place with old putty, the throat glass and box glass are period/original and show evidence of being rebacked. The dial is
old, possibly original paper, signed and with little wear; the hands are likely original. The number ‘47’ is stamped on the
back of the throat, but nowhere else. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed Howard & Davis, Boston, and is running, driven
by a large, unmarked cast iron weight. The pendulum stick and bob look original. There is a complete pendulum tie-down
on the old tin weight shield. This clock is in excellent condition, largely unmolested. New England Auctions sold a similar
example this spring for $900. $850–$1200.
