185. $250
Waterbury Clock Co. “Regulator No. 18”, ca.
1893. This is the early version of this model; a later version appeared in a 1906 catalog, and both versions are illustrated
in Ly, Waterbury Clocks & Watches, page 185. The 50-inch oak case has an old refinish; the door glass is modern. The
painted dial shows light soiling, chipping around the screw holes, the Waterbury logo, and may hold the original paint. The
hands are as shown in the catalog illustration. The 8-day, time-only, double-wind movement is signed and driven by two painted
wafer weights that run down each side; it is running confidently. The pendulum stick and bob are Waterbury issue. There
is an instruction label on the back and a Waterbury beat scale at the bottom; note the shrinkage separation down the middle of the
backboard. Schmidt’s Antiques sold one in 2021 for $700. $250–$600.
