178. $500
Pinwheel regulator, ca. 1920. A 6-foot oak case with a
cleaned old finish but some crustiness remaining in the corners and inside edges. The three glasses are old and wavy and likely
original. The porcelain dial has some noticeable chips and hairline cracks which could be repaired; the hands are appropriate. The pinwheel movement is unsigned; it is running without issue, regulated by a large gridiron temperature-compensating pendulum with
some rust and corrosion on the metal rods. There is a brass weight to drive it, a large hand crank, and a newspaper clipping
from a 1958 issue of the Lexington Herald Leader newspaper noting that this clock was in a restaurant in Breathitt County Kentucky
frequented by L&N railroad workers. Breathitt County is in southeastern Kentucky. There are no labels or maker’s marks. $500–$1500.
