154.             $1000

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Fashion No. 5”, ca. 1887.  This is probably the first Fashion model made by Seth Thomas for Seth Thomas, rather than for the Southern Calendar Clock Co. (although some appear to have been supplied to SCCC in its waning years).  It is also the first Fashion model with a long-drop pendulum, which was used in all subsequent ST Fashions and has a damascened nickel bob.  The 32.5-inch walnut case has a beautiful finish with good finials.  The door glass is original, with the correct lettering.  The dials hold old paint, possibly original, with some soiling but no flaking; they are warped and uneven.  The inset seconds dial is old paper. The hands are proper Fashion hands.  The calendar dial is mounted to an inner door that swings open when you remove the calendar hand – a modification first used on this model and all subsequent models.  The movement is signed, running, striking on a cathedral gong, and the calendar is advancing nicely.  AAC has sold three of this model since 2020 for an average of $1425.  $1000-$1500.
