Ansonia Clock Co. “Symbol”, ca. 1880. A large (17 inch) brass case with four period flat glasses in a polished case.  The dial is surrounded with an ornate sash with green inlays, found in several of Ansonia’s high-end clocks.  The dial is replaced paper and is signed at the bottom, with Ansonia’s logo at the top.  The hands are Ansonia.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a cathedral gong, mounted on a nickel Ansonia gong stand, and regulated by a two-barrel pendulum, all as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches, page 108).  Ansonia key included.  This model also came in a nickel-plated case.  No recent sales. $250–$400.
