Forestville Manufacturing Co. gilt stenciled shelf clock, 1842-1849.  A 15-inch rosewood case with a noticeable patina and gilt stenciling on the front.  The stenciling shows little loss; there are veneer losses along the bottom edge of the base.  Both glasses are likely original; there are losses to the gilt stenciling on the dial glass, and the lower glass likely held an image, perhaps of JC Brown, but is now clear.  The contoured dial holds the original paint with a JC Brown signature above the mainstem.  The dial shows some chipping and wear; the minute hand is a mismatch.  The 8-day time-and-strike movement is die-stamped Forestville M.F.G. Co., Bristol; it is running and striking. There is a good Forestville label inside.  $50–$125.
