102.              $150

Sperry & Shaw sharp gothic (steeple) fusee, 1844-1851.  An unusual steeple with four cone finials and a 30-hour fusee movement.  The case is 21 inches tall with flame mahogany veneer in excellent condition.  There are two original glasses, the tablet a well-preserved decalcomania transfer of a lithograph based on the earliest known photograph of the Capitol, taken by John Plumbe in 1846.  The painted and contoured dial likely holds the original paint, with rough touch-ups at the pins and top screw.  The hands are likely replacements. The 30-hour fusee time-and-strike movement is unsigned; it runs briefly and needs adjustment.  It strikes on a wire gong.  There is a darkened but complete label inside.  A wonderful example, I think.  AAC sold this clock in 2021 for $225.  $150–$250.
