S.C. Spring sleigh-front triple decker, 1858-1868.  Spring worked with SB Terry before setting out on his own in Bristol CT in 1858.  A decade later he joined Elisha Welch to form Welch, Spring & Co.  This is not his most common style, but I did find another example on LiveAuctioneers.  The 32-inch case, veneered in rosewood, was made by Birge, Peck & Co., which Spring bought out; note the BP&Co label stating “Manufactured by S.C. Spring, successor to Birge, Peck & Co.”  There are some missing segments of veneer along the base; the finish is clean and polished.  The three glasses are old with well-preserved tablets; the lower tablet has probably been rebacked in blue. The contoured metal dial is clean with fading and light chipping; the hands are slight mismatches.  The 8-day unsigned strap-brass movement has been tightened up at the bushings but still won’t run for more than a minute, and the strike doesn’t want to stop. There are two appropriate weights and a pendulum bob, and a dark label behind plastic.  $100–$200.
