Forestville Manufacturing Co. 8-day double-door
OG, 1842-1849. A 30.5-inch case veneered in figured mahogany with a high-gloss finish. The veneer is beautiful, including
on the sides, with just a small chip or two. Both glasses are original with the original putty; the tablet on the lower door
has been repainted. The signed, wooden dial has been shellacked (lacquered?) and has yellowed badly, as well as having
some off-color spots of touch-up; note the misspelled “Forestvill”. The hands are original and found on other examples
of this model. The 8-day, time-and-strike brass movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong. There are
two period 8-day weights and a period pendulum bob; the label has been lost. A great example; AAC sold a very similar example
in 2022 for $325. $200-$300.
