Birge & Fuller Patent Brass Eight Day Clock, 1844-1848. An untouched sleigh-front triple-decker clock, 32.5 inches tall with what must be the original finish and 180 years of accumulated “patina”, giving it a very dark finish and obscuring any graining.  The glasses are period if not original, the tablets very well preserved.  The middle glass is a Fenn tablet, while the lower glass is hand-painted and is old, if not original. The wooden dial is evenly soiled but shows little wear, the hands are proper for B&F and period.  The strap-brass movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong.  There are two matching 8-day iron weights, an old pendulum bob, and good label on the backwall, including the image of “The Breeze” steam train, trackside workers, and a boy and his dog.  Lovely.  $150–$300.
