Silas B. Terry column & cornice shelf clock, ca. 1835. A
32.5-inch column & cornice, two-door case with three-quarter columns on each side. This handsome clock is veneered in flame
mahogany with a clean, polished finish. Both glasses are replacements, the dial glass is period, the lower glass newer. The tablet was painted by Tom Moberg. There is a working lock with key on the lower door. The wooden dial is clean with
gilded gesso decorations in the corners; it mounts to the case with four metal brackets at the corners. There is a large cut-out
in the center to view the unusual, round brass movement; the hands are period. The unsigned round movement on a square brass
backplate is uncommon; note the unusual semi-circular bridge over the escape anchor. It is running and striking on a wire
gong, driven by two old 8-day weights and regulated by a period pendulum bob. A small card label indicates the manufacturer
(Silas B. Terry, Horologist) in Plymouth, Conn. A rare example of an SBT clock from this period; AAC sold two similar examples
in 2022 and 2023 for $772 and $706, respectively. $500–$750.
