70. $400
Hills, Goodrich & Co. gilt column OG, 1841-1845. A
31-inch OG case with good flame mahogany veneer and the original glasses; the tablet has been retouched or repainted. The contoured
tin-can dial is greyed and the numbering worn; the hands are period and correct. The gilded gesso acanthus leaves over the dial
have two secured vertical cracks and have been touched up with paint and then varnished; the banded gilt columns look original. One of the internal side mirrors looks modern, the other looks period. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is clean and polished,
and running like a champ, driven by two proper angled weights that were not fully formed during casting. There is a period embossed
pendulum bob and a dark and worn, but mostly complete label inside. A good example of this popular model. AAC sold a similar
example last summer for $613. $400–$600.
