E. W. Adams Patent Eight Day Brass Clock, 1836–1837. A
second example, this one with considerable restoration. The refinished case is 35 inches tall with burl panels, full columns,
and carved capitals. The cornice glass is a replacement, the dial glass original, the middle mirror glass period/original, and
the lower glass modern with a proper drapery tablet. The wooden dial is gilded in clean condition, the hands are proper. The 8-day, time-and-strike brass movement is not signed (typical). It is running and striking on a wire gong, driven by two
8-day weights and a period pendulum bob. As with all Adams clocks, there is a wonderful color lithograph of “Dartmouth College”
in good condition; note the horseman riding up the drive on the right, and the boy and the dog nearby. A beautiful clock – don’t
you have a place for it? $400–$600.
