55.              $750

Heman Clark Salem Bridge shelf clock, 1823-1835. A second example of a Salem Bridge clock by Heman Clark.  This clock sold at Fontaine’s in 2023 for $3000; unfortunately, the original glass tablet was broken and an exact replacement glass was painted by Tom Moberg.  The 26.5-inch case is veneered in mahogany, including flame mahogany across the top, with a clean finish.  There is a piece of missing veneer on the back right side of the base, and there are some repairs around the lower escutcheon.  The dial glass is original, the lower glass modern. The iron dial has had extensive work done, with considerable overpainting and touch-up; the numbering has been strengthened, and the signature and location (Plymouth, CT) shows wear.  The hands are period.  The brass, 8-day time-and-strike movement is unmarked; it is running and striking properly on an iron bell, driven by two 8 lb weights and regulated by a period pendulum bob.  There is a very dark, nearly illegible label inside.  $750–$1500.
