49.                   TD-10.           $50

Daniel Pratt, Jr. 30-hour shelf clock, ca. 1843.  Daniel was a successful clock retailer in the Boston area.  This clock is very similar to #48, suggesting that it was obtained from Brewster (Elias Ingraham made cases for Brewster); however, Daniel Pratt was a casemaker as well, so they could have been trading cases and movements.  Here the case is 20.75 inches tall with mahogany veneer, although it appears to be missing from the rounded fronts of the case and cornice.  The dial glass is original and the mirror is old, although it may not be original.  The flat metal dial is clean and may be an old replacement, or repainted. The hour hand looks period, the minute hand a likely replacement.  The movement is as found in #48, unsigned and mounted on a cast iron backplate with the springs in cups.  It is running without problem, but the strike chain is striking continuously once wound and will need attention.  There is a good Daniel Pratt label inside.  $50–$150.
