Birge, Mallory & Co. 30-hour OG, 1838-1843.  I have not seen a BM&Co OG before and did not know anyone besides Chauncey Jerome used brass dials.  The 26.5-inch mahogany case has a beautiful finish, with an original dial glass and a modern replacement lower glass and atypical tablet, backed in black. Striking, if not authentic.  The contoured brass dial is polished, lacquered, and the numbering is strong, the hands appropriate. BM&Co used strap-brass movements and that is true here even for this small, 30-hour, weight-driven, time-and-strike movement. It is die-stamped BM&Co.  I could not test it as the weight cords are missing, but I expect this clean movement to run. There are two period weights and an embossed brass pendulum bob, with a good label on the interior back wall.  A quick check of LiveAuctioneers shows a few similar examples, although their forte was triple deckers.  $50–$100.
