Ansonia Clock Co. cigar box clock, ca. 1850. The 12.5-inch box clock is just a bit bigger than New England Clock Co. cigar box clocks, but is in the same style, with a full-length glass and decalcomania tablet in the door.  The tablet depicts King Edward VII as a boy in the Scottish Highlands, mounted and with his dog, from an engraving after a painting by Sir Edwin Landseer.  Edward was king of the United Kingdom from 1901 to 1910, and was succeeded by George V, grandfather of the late Queen Elizabeth.  The contoured dial has been repainted, the hands are modern replacements.  The 30-hour time and alarm movement was made by Terry & Andrews, who formed the Ansonia Clock Co. with Anson Phelps in 1850.  The movement is uncommon, as there is no strike.  There is a good green label behind plastic. This clock sold for $400 at R.O. Schmitt’s in 2015.  $200–$400.
