32.            $500

Birge, Mallory & Co. miniature triple-decker, 1838-1843. A 26-inch case with mahogany veneer and regilded half-columns and gesso splat, on gilded ball feet in front and turned feet in back; I think the chimney caps are replacements.  The dial glass and middle glass and tablet are original, the lower glass an appropriate replacement, probably repainted.  The middle glass is cracked but seems stable.  The brass dial has been refinished, renumbered, and lacquered.  It is a bit more dented than one might expect; the hands are replacements.  The small strap-brass movement is signed BM&Co.; it is running and striking on the wire gong, driven by two small (3 lb) iron weights and regulated by an embossed brass and lead pendulum bob.  There is a good label inside behind plastic.  What’s not to like?  AAC sold two like this in 2022 for $650.  $500–$700.
