John Hunt 30-hour long-drop shelf clock, ca. 1835.  Mr. Hunt worked in Bristol CT, but not much is known about him; there are a fair number of clocks by him or namesakes. This two-door clock is 36.5 inches tall with two half-columns on each side, mahogany veneer, and a birdseye maple splat.  The columns are gesso covered and grain-painted, with gilded caps and plinths.  It all looks original with light chipping and wear. The dial glass may be original, the mirror wavy but clearly resilvered.  The wooden dial is clean with colorful strawberries in the middle, and strong numbering.  The hands are period and appropriate.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement runs briefly and will strike, with two 30-hour weights; there is a good label inside.  $50–$150.
