Putnam Bailey 30-hour long-drop shelf clock,ca. 1835.  Putnam worked out of North Goshen, CT making many wooden works shelf clocks; he built the cases and bought movements from others, including Samuel Terry.  This case is 34.5 inches tall with mahogany veneer in good shape; note the rectangular columns with ebonized trim and the unusual unpainted mahogany splat.  The finish is old and a bit gritty.  The dial glass is old but not necessarily original, while the mirror appears to be a later replacement.  The wooden dial holds some color but is worn and soiled.  The hands are period appropriate.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is marked ‘Subtype 8.2.13’. It doesn’t want to run but will strike, with two 30-hour weights.  There is a good label inside.  $50–$150.
