Jeromes’ & Darrow bronzed looking glass clock, 1828-1834.  This example contains the Noble Jerome thin plate movement which was only used for a short time.  The 35-inch case is also thinner than usual, just 3 inches deep, and so is unstable when the weights are at the top.  The finish is very old, grungy and crusty, and is spotted with something of indeterminate origin that will not easily clean off.  The bronze stenciling on the columns and splat is faint but visible.  The door latch is present but not working; the dial glass is modern, the lower glass is old but should be a mirror – after all, it is a looking glass clock, one of the first.  The wooden dial is clean with little wear; the hands are proper and period.  The 30-hour wooden movement will not run but will strike on the iron bell – note that the strike chain is on the right side of the movement.  There are two 3 lb lead weights, not original, and the original pulley tin dust covers on top. There is a good label inside.  AAC sold a better example last winter for $250, and one a year ago for $250.  $125–$250.
