E. & G.W. Bartholomew 30-hour shelf clock, 1829-1833. A
second example from these cousins, this one a traditional column & splat with a varnished finish and bright stenciling on the
half-columns and splat. I think the stenciling may have been strengthened on the splat, but it looks great. The case is
27 inches tall with the carved pineapple finials; the dial glass is modern, the lower glass old, but a replacement with a beautiful
and traditional eglomise painting and a gilded border. The wood dial is clean, the hands appropriate and period. The 30-hour
time-and-strike wooden movement will run briefly and will strike, with two period weights. There is a good label inside. This is a smaller size clock with a beautiful finish and tablet; what’s not to like? AAC sold a similar example in 2023 for
$500. $150–$300.
