298. $500
English double fusee bracket clock, ca. 1830. The
case is 19.5 inches tall and 15 inches wide, in mahogany veneer with inlaid brass decorations on the front. Note that the veneer
has cracked on the top near the center, as well as a vertical separation on the front of the case. The finish is old and polished. The convex dial glass is modern and the latch to lock it closed is broken or missing, but it stays shut without a problem. The
convex iron dial holds the original paint with slight chipping and craquelure; it is signed “Mann & Son, Norwich”. The hands
may be original. The 8-day, time-and-strike double-fusee movement is unsigned. It is running easily and counting the hours
on a nickel bell, with fenestrations on the side and back to hear the bell. The pendulum rod has been repaired. There
is a dealer/repairer’s label inside. AAC sold a similar example in 2021 for $600. It had a similar double-fusee movement,
with brass inlays on the front of the case; it was attributed to Ballard. $500–$800.
